Clothing that fits well and feels good will make the workout more enjoyable. As you get bigger, it can be harder and harder to get out the door. Invest when it makes sense: If you know you want to run throughout your pregnancy, finding comfortable and supportive clothing could be a worthwhile investment. After having gone through the gear-choosing-while-pregnant process twice, here are a few pro tips to keep in mind. That’s especially important when your body is already so uncomfortable with its other marathon-growing a human. RW tester, Candice, road-tested Goodbody Goodmommy’s Maternity Leggings during her third trimester. While not (yet) perfect, Reebok and running giant Nike have released maternity gear lines, giving expecting runners options from their trusted brands.ĭespite the obstacles, our pregnant testers hit the road with a variety of maternity activewear and non-maternity apparel to help moms-to-be find gear that will support miles with baby-on-board. It’s been roughly eight months since I first dug into the maternity activewear line, and I’m excited to report that running companies have started to follow suit. Toward the end of 2019, Cadenshae, a maternity activewear company, signed Alysia Montano after she spoke out against her former sponsor, Nike, for its treatment toward its mother runners. I commend companies for making maternity activewear, like A Pea in the Pod and Gap, even if it’s expensive and not running-specific, because it does offer moms-to-be a chance to stay active when they’re expecting. Certain items, like the Lux Bra, are highlighted as good for breastfeeding moms thanks to its cross-front design, but our testers didn’t have much luck. I’m surprised that although Oiselle is running gear designed by and for women, there is no maternity-specific line. And because a woman is only wearing it for a short period of time, it can be hard to justify the cost. Plus, maternity clothing-active or otherwise-is expensive. That makes finding clothing that fits a growing bump, accommodates swollen feet, and doesn’t press too hard on an already overtaxed bladder, especially trying. Runners are particular when it comes to their shoes and gear when they’re not running for two.
